Background Emerging evidence implicates the neonatal gut microbiome as playing a significant role in the development of childhood atopy, a common precursor to asthma. Dysbiosis or microbial imbalance, can predispose individuals to asthma, while a balanced gut microbiome, fosters immune tolerance. The immune mechanisms involved in asthma are complex and little is known about the possible role of the gut microbiota in the aetiopathogenesis of asthma.
Objective Imuniplant could modulate the immune system through gut microbiota in asthma. Advancing knowledge of the gut microbiome and its function in modulating the course of asthma, might result in novel therapeutic strategies.
Materials and methods The evaluation of the patients with asthma was based on history and physical examination. We investigated the effect of Imuniplant in patients with asthma.
Results Environmental factors such as urbanisation, pollution, and dietary habits also significantly contribute to asthma risk. These findings suggest the broad outline of a rationale for approaches involving directed manipulation of the gut and airway microbiome for the treatment and prevention of allergic asthma. This opens up the possibility that strategies to manipulate microbiota may represent a novel approach to asthma prevention or management.
Conclusion The resident microbiota is important in maintaining structural and functional integrity of the gut and in immune system regulation. There was an increase of the intestinal permeability reported in patients with asthma and a reduction of the gut microbiome diversity. Modifying gut microbiome by applying Imuniplant during early years may be a preventive and therapeutic option in high risk groups.
